In 1969 Mr. A.T. Hassanally floated the idea for badly needed medical assistance. After being kicked around mercilessly about 10 years doing services at random under a few covers and hats.
Finally with pain and faith he was able to gather a group of volunteers to form a team and start the work, a no name service association with ZERO in our hands WAS BORN.
Our trip No. 1 started on the auspicious day of His Majesty the King’s Birthday on 5th December 1979, with some personal donations by volunteers. We experienced a lot of laughs and criticism from our close and far acquaintances discouraging and hating our guts by all means suitable to them.
The trip was a great success beyond our imagination. We came across so many poor villagers suffering from various diseases, which created deep concern among participating volunteers. They promise to go around their friends knocking their doors with what they have witnessed as a background convincing their friends, and it did worked, 2nd trip was arranged and 3rd. - 4th. and onward.
We never have roses on our path either but instead full of thorns and nails lovingly thrown by our so called friends the devils under smiling human skin. We kept going on stumbling and crawling ahead with confidence and faith to achieve the goal trip after trip.
Till to day (Jan. 2005) we have performed 151 trips [alternate monthly] Around 52 Provinces of Thailand,
Serving 198,882 patients on general disease
With some 7,707 patients brought to hospitals in Bangkok and in provincial hospital as advised by our physicians for further treatments.
Among them 481 operations were performed successfully on various diseases.
We have also done early detection check on cervix and breast cancer for 55,073 cases with the assistance of National Cancer Institute. Those found infected were treated with medicines and/or operation as the case may be.
Our dental section has treated 18,097 cases with tooth extractions, scaling and fillings.
We have recently added a physical therapy section in our team and have already treated some 2,193 cases.
We have also performed 496 eye operations at site with borrowed instruments, which is no more possible. So we are seriously engaged in preparing our own unit fully equipped for Cataract Operation in near future, if that is the desire of God.
